This article in no way matches what some in our country are going through or have gone through with the recent round of severe storms.  I hope and pray for them and their families.  The storms we had here in the part of North Carolina where I live were in no way near what they have and are having to endure.  I am thankful for that.

Within the past month or so we have had storms that produced hail large enough to damage our cars and the roof on the house.  After getting the insurance company out to assess the damage I went in search of a roofer.  I know roofers are busy after hail storms, but are they so busy they can’t call back.  That’s how some of them seem to handle it.  One said he would be out the next day and have an estimate by that afternoon.  Never heard from him.  I called one from a sign in the yard.  Never heard from him.  Met some in a neighborhood they were walking asking for business.  After listening to what they had to say, I decided not to go with them.

Finally I decided to go with one who came out and gave an estimate and was referred to me by a mortgage broker I know.  I called him and ask him to come out one more time and go over the information.  He did and the work is being scheduled.  Will report back when job is completed.

Where can you get a good meal with a great atmosphere?

This past Friday we went with some friends to  San Antonio’s Modern Mexican Restaurant on Barclay Downs, near SouthPark Mall.  Everything on the menu was $5.  It’s the first time we have been there.  The food was great and the service was great.

There was one exception; Alamo’s Last Feast (enough for four people),  normally priced at $49.95.  It was on sale for $20.00 ($5 per person).  I had the TEQUILA CHICKEN, normally priced at $16.95 for $5.

The deal only goes through the end of this month if you plan to go.

With the election cycle gearing up, it would do Republicans well to check their fears at the door.  It sounds as though some are already sounding retreat.

The Republican Party is not out of the gate and the “news media” is telling us, and the country, Obama and the democrats are going to win.  They do this in every election whether it is for president or an off year election.

I seem to remember the election year of 2004.  The “news media” had done their part for the previous three and one half years.  They had kept everyone stirred up about the high unemployment rate (4.5% -5.0%).  The kept talking about the coming recession, even though it was not there.  Anything they could do that would contribute to putting a democrat in the White House.  Up until the votes were counted, they talked about how Kerry was winning at the polls.  That is until the final poll was taken from the American people.  We chose Bush.

Now, you may or may not have liked George W. Bush as President of the United States.  That really does not matter.  The question is do you want to see another term for the current office holder.  In my opinion his policies and the policies of the Democratic Party have been and will continue to be a disaster for America.

The Republicans have many good people lining up to run for president, but you will not hear much about them through the “news”.  You will need to educate yourself.

The National Association of Realtors recently sent out emails stating they plan to increase our annual dues by forty dollars per year.  While I do support many of the actions they do, I do not support this one.

In one release they stated, political campaigns have changed due to the Supreme Court ruling in 2010 allowing corporations and unions to make “independent expenditures”.  These are not campaign dollars donated to the politician but dollars spent on running political ads.  (For more information,
see this link.)  One of most outrageous remarks I saw was a 100-year-old precedent (actually set in 1907) was changed which is not true.  Actually, this has been spread around by certain politicians and through the mass media.  This is why you cannot trust just one news source or listen to the political machines.

From what I have read, it did not change political fundraising, as we have known it for the past 100 years.  Corporations still cannot donate directly to politicians.  Of course, you have to get away from the daily news cycle to find this out.

NAR has been at the forefront in defending the REALTOR® profession.  Two recent episodes come to mind.  One was when there was talk of being forced to bring a re-sale home up to today’s energy efficient standards before the home could be sold and the other one concerning mortgage interest deductions.  Then a couple of years ago at the state level where counties were voting on leveling a higher tax (a sales tax) on homeowners when they sold their homes.

I agree we need to be diligent and back those who work for the real estate profession, but I don’t agree with raising our fees at this time.  It seems to me to would be better to redirect some of the funds already being collected.  Funds such as those being spent on the television ads now running.

How about two years ago?

How often do you stop at the pump to fill up?  Feeling a pinch in the wallet?  We all are.  According to US Energy Information Administration, pump prices have risen from approximately $1.60 a gallon on January 8, 2009 to approximately $3.55 on March 8, 2011.  With these prices, the cost of fifteen gallons of gasoline a week will be about $2,769.00 vs. $1,248.00 over a fifty-two week period.  That’s an increase of approximately 121%.   If we continue relying on foreign oil and prices continue to rise to the levels in Europe, we could be paying over $7,000.00 per year based on $9.00 per gallon.   Maybe Bernie Marcus was right, time to invest in horses again!  Buggy whips might make a come back.

Meanwhile, housing starts post their biggest decline since 1984 and U-6 unemployment is at 15.9%.   Food prices going higher, home heating and cooling costs going higher..........

Say it again, when was the recession is over?
